This residency program at Casa de Saúde do Telhal aimed to support self-expression among 30 psychiatric inpatients through various forms of artistic creation.

It culminated in a series of public exhibitions, aimed to encourage patients to explore and articulate their identities,  showcasing a wide range of works including monoprint self-portraits, photographs, videos, poetry, and other daily creative pieces.

The exhibition IDENTITY & COMMUNITY – IMPRESSION EXPRESSION functioned as a platform to disrupt and reconfigure normative conceptions of mental illness. It encouraged viewers to see the works not simply as representations of suffering, but as expressions of agency, identity and the fundamental human need for communication and connection.
